Hardcopy II Capabilities

• Store entire images in single ISO (dd type files, also called flat files) file for ease of investigation.
• Option to chunk data into multiple files for ease of archiving. CRC on each chunk, and MD5 to ease forensic validation of the data

HardCopy II currently supports the following operations:

• Perform a functional test of the current system configuration.

• Calculate an MD5 checksum and a 32-bit CRC (every 2GB) on the contents of the suspect or destination drive.

• Perform a sector-by-sector copy of the suspect drive to the destination drive.

• Image the contents of the suspect drive to a file on the destination drive.

• Split the image into 2.3GB per file on a FAT32 formatted drive.

• Display the list of files (NTFS) or directories (FAT32) currently stored on the destination drive.

• Format the file system on the destination drive (NTFS or FAT32).

• Wipe all information from the destination drive.

• MD5 Hashing is displayed on the HardCopy II screen. A printout of can be obtained by utilizing the RS232 port and printing through a workstation.

The ATA Hard Drive Data Capture Unit also supports copying suspect drives that are configured with a Host Protected Area. A Host Protected Area is defined as a reserved area for data storage outside the normal operating file system. This area is hidden from the operating system and the file system, and is typically used by specialized applications. Operating systems may also wish to store configuration data or to save memory to the hard disk drive device in a location that the operating systems cannot change.

The HardCopy II ATA Hard Drive Data Capture Unit can copy data hidden by a Device Configuration Overlay (DCO) on the Suspect Drive.
